The hall is named after the destroyed Markovo hill. According to one of the legends, in ancient times Krali Marko rode his horse Sharkolia near Plovdiv when he heard screams and sobs somewhere in the distance. He climbed to the top of a high hill, looked around, and saw three chains of slaves. Krali Marko boiled with anger and, drew his sword and spurred his horse. The horse jumped on a lower hill, and from the strong blow, his hooves made four holes in the rock, and his belly a larger one between them. These holes were visible on the top of the hill before it was destroyed, and most of the pavement on the streets of Plovdiv was made of its syenite rocks and they are symbolically called – “The Seventh Hill”.
